Frequently Asked Questions

All of us have questions when we consider attending a church for the first time. We want to provide information here that will make your first visit to LifePointe a great experience! Some of the answers include a link…just click on it to find out more about that topic. If you still haven’t found the answer you’re looking for, just e-mail Phillip Murdock, our Minister of Family Life..

How should I dress?

It's your call.  Just come as you are and be comfortable.  You’ll find that most people around you will be dressed casually (jeans or khakis).

What should I expect on Sunday morning at LifePointe?

A Warm Welcome
Friendly, knowledgeable greeters will be available as you walk into the building to answer any question you may have; or, if you prefer, you can use a map and signs that will direct you to important places such as the worship area, Information Pointe, KidPointe, Friendship Pointe, and the restrooms. Your children will have a great time developing a relationship with Jesus at KidPointe, while middle school students, high school students, and adults are in the auditorium together.

Friendship Pointe
Grab a cup of coffee or some juice and a morning snack at Friendship Pointe.  Feel free to visit for a while with friends or take your refreshments with you to your table.

Round Table Seating
At LifePointe you will notice that seating is at round tables instead of rows or pews.  Tables seat up to six people.  People learn best through experience and round tables help provide a relaxed setting in which to worship and learn.  Sit wherever you like at any table you choose.  We hope this very natural environment will help you feel at home very quickly.  At each table you'll find:

  • people like yourself,
  • programs/placemats to tell you about the worship service,
  • information about LifePointe,
  • Bibles to use and take home if you like,
  • anything else we'd like to share with you that day.

Worship Service
There is a time of communion each Sunday in which those who believe in Christ can remember His death for our sins.  The communion bread and juice will be at each table.  Each table also has a container into which you may place your offering (as our guest you are not expected to give an offering, but you are welcome, if you wish).  We will do our best to explain, from stage, each part of the service to help you understand what to expect as we go along.  Most Sunday mornings will consist of a combination of contemporary and blended music styles, a clear, practical message from the Bible, communion, offering, and opportunities to develop friendships with others.

How can I find out what LifePointe believes and teaches?

There is a summary of our beliefs on the What We Believe page.  In addition, we regularly offer a What We Believe seminar that you can attend; information about our next seminar is available on our What We Believe page.  If you have a specific question that isn’t covered, or if you have a question about what you read, just send an e-mail to our Lead Minister, Frank Forehand.

What is KidPointe?

Infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary students will love KidPointe, the children’s ministry of LifePointe! Each child will deepen their relationship with Christ through multi-sensory, interactive, and fun experiences at his or her age level. Because your children are very special to us, all KidPointe staff are trained and have passed a background check…all to make sure that your child has the best experience possible! Contact Karen Murdock with any questions regarding KidPointe Nursery or Phillip Murdock for information regarding KidPointe Preschool and KidPointe Elementary.

Looks like you have great stuff for kids. What do you offer for teenagers?

Middle school and high school students worship together with the adults in the auditorium on Sunday morning. We believe it’s important to provide intergenerational opportunities for all ages to get to know each other. We also keep teen culture in mind as we plan Sunday morning worship, (it helps when you have a former youth minister on staff!) so we believe they’ll love the LifePointe experience. Though intergenerational opportunities are vital, we also know that students want an opportunity to hang out with other people there own age…an opportunity they have during special events (putt-putt, bowling, movies, etc.) and small group Bible study during the week. Contact Phillip Murdock for more information about the middle school and high school programs.

Why are you meeting in a school instead of a church building?

LifePointe is a brand new church, so for now we meet in a facility that is familiar to the whole community...Stonehouse Elementary School.  We use the gymnasium, cafetorium, large lobby, and a few classrooms for our Sunday morning programming.

What kind of information can I get at Information Pointe?

You can receive lots of great information about LifePointe:
--how you can have a relationship with Jesus,
--what we believe,
--how you can get involved,
--how you can make a difference in your neighborhood,
--how to sign up for an event or program,
--also, you can receive a free gift as a first-time guest.

How do I get to Stonehouse Elementary School?

It’s easy. Visit our Directions page. If you’re familiar with the area, we’re located about 1 mile east of Anderson’s Corner on Rochambeau Rd. (State Route 30) & School House Rd., in the Stonehouse area of James City County.

We want to reduce as much of the anxiety that accompanies your first-time visit to LifePointe.  If you find some way in which we could make it clearer or easier for people, please let us know by sending an e-mail to our Minister of Family Life, Phillip Murdock
